16:44 Daniel_Frechette: Hi, does anyone know when ImageAlter 4.0.5 is expected to go into production?
16:48 steve|s: Hey Daniel.
16:49 steve|s: you're looking for bug fixes?
16:50 Daniel_Frechette: Yes. I have big problems with v4.0.4 since I migrated from 3.0.x
16:51 Daniel_Frechette: Yes. I'm having big problems with v4.0.4 since I migrated from 3.0.x
16:53 steve|s: I don't recall what the changes were from 4.0.4 to 4.0.5 (if any??)
16:53 steve|s: did you have any code to reproduce the problem?
16:53 steve|s: (or images that consistently fail?)
16:54 Daniel_Frechette: Rotating, cropping and scaling in a single operation is not working as expected.
16:56 Daniel_Frechette: The sequence of the actions is very important in v4.0.4. I was kinda expecting the next release to have fixed a few issues, including allowing integers 0 and 1 as values for maxwidth and maxheight
16:56 steve|s: trying to recall back to november when the changes were made ... i may have been having problems with scaling too
16:57 Daniel_Frechette: Sorry if my English is not perfect. It's not my first language.
16:57 steve|s: it's fine
16:57 steve|s: can you give an example of the values you're using for rotating/scaling/cropping ?
16:58 Daniel_Frechette: Of course, give me a few minutes...
16:58 steve|s: i don't know if you've found the source, but it's here: http://github.com/browserplus/bp-imagealter
17:30 Daniel_Frechette: Hey Steve. Take a look at http://pastebin.com/tsWWZU8t
17:31 steve|s: thanks. i'll take a look at it
17:33 Daniel_Frechette: Take a look at http://pastebin.com/SSEPTX7a instead. I made a correction on the last line.
17:34 steve|s: ok
17:52 Daniel_Frechette: Steve, I just posted another trace at http://pastebin.com/DgkcWdVE. This may hold/provide more clues.
18:01 Daniel_Frechette: Lastly, I made another trace using a 600x800 image instead of a 800x600 image

08:50 Daniel_Frechette: Steve, I pretty much summarized my problem(s) in the following post: http://developer.yahoo.net/forum/?showtopic=6763&cookiecheckonly=1
09:57 Daniel_Frechette: Steve, in case you did not notice. I summarized my problem(s) in the following post: http://developer.yahoo.net/forum/?showtopic=6763&cookiecheckonly=1
09:58 steve|s: i saw that
09:58 steve|s: i'll try to reproduce today so we at least have a test case
10:34 Daniel_Frechette: Steve, I am preparing test cases to be used with http://browserplus.org/explore/
10:36 steve|s: great
11:51 gad: hi skylar!
13:10 Daniel_Frechette: Steve, I just posted a reply to my previous post (http://developer.yahoo.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=6763). Please take a look and follow the link. It will open a PDF document showing a bunch of test cases. Hope this helps.
13:14 steve|s: thanks
13:14 steve|s: i'm not sure when we can get a fix out
13:15 steve|s: but this document should help
13:15 Daniel_Frechette: Steve, what do you do exactly? Are you a coordinator?
13:16 steve|s: i'm a dev, but work on the web-dev and ruby service end
13:16 steve|s: not on c++ services
13:16 steve|s: (i work for Yahoo on this project fulltime)
13:16 Daniel_Frechette: OK, thanks.
13:17 steve|s: we're a man down right now frown
13:17 steve|s: the original author of ImageAlter (and much else)
13:22 Daniel_Frechette: That's too bad. It will cause me problems in the short term. If no fix is made before the end of september, then should I stay with v4.0.4 or go back to v3? What is your honnest opinion?
13:22 steve|s: with our workload right now, v3
13:22 Daniel_Frechette: Thanks
13:23 steve|s: seems like the problem is mostly with scale??
13:24 steve|s: like we're scaling in just 1 dimension
13:25 Daniel_Frechette: cropping is always applied to the original image, not the intermediate result.
13:25 Daniel_Frechette: To rotate properly you must first scale the image. But then cropping because an issue since the image is already cropped.
13:26 Daniel_Frechette: To rotate properly you must first scale the image. But then cropping becomes an issue since the image is already cropped.
13:26 Daniel_Frechette: To rotate properly you must first scale the image. But then cropping becomes an issue since the image is already scaled.
13:26 Daniel_Frechette: It's a catch 22

12:00 bebop8: hello.., new to bp, testing out writing a ruby service.., have some q's about best approach to take
12:00 bebop8: first thing I am looking to do is download files and pass the paths to ruby
12:03 bebop8: in looking at the FileTransfer service, seems will provide ability to pull things down and gives you a randomized filename once complete,
12:03 bebop8: trying to find how that path can then be passed from js to ruby service for next level of interaction
12:05 steve|s: hey
12:06 steve|s: a BrowserPlus "handle" in JavaScript is a "Pathname" in Ruby
12:06 steve|s: (file "handle"wink
12:10 steve|s: does that help, bebop8
12:11 bebop8: so if I pass the BrowserPlusHandleName value to a service call, ruby can treat that as the full path to start working with?
12:12 steve|s: right
12:13 bebop8: nice..,
12:13 bebop8: also, starting to look like I will need to make use of bp_require outside of my own little class files..,
12:15 bebop8: if i want to include a GEM library in my package, assuming I have to pre-bundle appropriate one for each OS, then go through all the files in the gem and replace require's with bp_require's?
12:15 steve|s: yes, that sounds right
14:02 bebop8: been working through a first ruby service, so far everything has been smooth sailing except when trying to rework a GEM to be included..
14:02 bebop8: was able to rework all requires for ruby files.., but the interpreter doesnt seem to pick up core libs
14:03 steve|s: what gem are you trying to migrate?
14:04 steve|s: all my ruby services have been standalone so far
14:07 bebop8: rubyzip
14:08 steve|s: are you trying to zip files ?
14:08 bebop8: hacked through the file requires and tracked down appropriate files, but bp_require is trying to require .rb files for some ruby libs (iconv, stringio, zlib)
14:08 bebop8: unzip
14:08 bebop8: want to download a zip, then unzip it
14:09 steve|s: i have an example somewhere that uses gzip and it seems like gzip is built in
14:10 steve|s: http://github.com/sspencer/bp-gzip/blob/master/service/gzipper.rb
14:10 bebop8: nice.., taking a look now
16:41 bebop8: been fiddling with trying to get zip/archive handling going in my service..., need to move a handful of image files down to the users computer at once
16:41 bebop8: seems there is work to get a 5.x version of the ruby interpreter in: http://github.com/browserplus/bp-ruby
16:42 bebop8: says you will be able to ship native extensions.., anyone know the status of this?
